The Biblioteca Departamental Jorge Garcés Borrero, a state-run public institution, together with the Federación Colombiana de Deportes Electrónicos (FEDECOLDE), has officially opened a groundbreaking esports facility: a high-performance gaming arena designed for training, education, and competitive development in electronic sports.
This new venue is the only gamer arena in Latin America located inside a public library, marking a historic milestone in the integration of esports, public education, and community infrastructure.
Located in Cali, the arena represents a pioneering initiative that connects esports with knowledge, technology, and social development. The facility is designed not only for entertainment, but as a high-performance training environment where players can develop professional-level skills through structured practice, coaching, and physical conditioning.
The arena is operated by FEDECOLDE, with the goal of strengthening talent development pathways, promoting healthy competitive habits, and positioning esports as a recognized sport discipline in the country.
In Colombia, significant progress has been achieved thanks to the national esports law, which has enabled stronger collaboration between public institutions and the esports ecosystem. This regulatory framework has opened new opportunities for government entities to support initiatives proposed by FEDECOLDE, including infrastructure development, training programs, and institutional partnerships such as this new arena within a public library.
FEDECOLDE is also a full member of the International Esports Federation (IESF), ensuring that the arena aligns with global standards for competitive esports training and athlete development.
“This arena is much more than a gaming space—it is a high-performance training center where athletes can prepare at a professional level while also engaging with education and personal development. Its location inside a public, state-operated library demonstrates how esports can be integrated into public policy, education, and community development.” says Alexander Ospina, President, FEDECOLDE.
The facility includes professional gaming stations, coaching and training programs, physical activity areas, and academic initiatives that encourage players to combine intellectual growth with competitive performance.
With this launch, the Valle del Cauca region takes a major step forward in positioning itself as a leader in esports innovation in Latin America, setting a new benchmark for how public institutions can actively support the development of digital sports.
