It’s the second reduction in the past year.
The Philippines.- The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has lowered the levy applied gaming venue operators must pay on live sports betting revenue from 17.5 per cent to 15 per cent. The move follows a cut from 22.5 per cent in January 2025.
The 15 per cent rate will be backdated to November 2025 in accordance with a regulatory revision document released on November 6. Gross gaming revenue from virtual sports will still be taxed at 30 per cent even though the same document proposed lowering it to 15 per cent.
The decision, disclosed by PAGCOR’s Electronic Gaming Licensing Department, was approved by the Board of Directors on January 8 and forms part of the corporation’s strategy to streamline regulatory fees for operators, balancing revenue generation with industry growth and consumer protection.
The gaming authority has stated that the reduction is intended to encourage growth in the live sports betting segment and provide operators with more flexibility to invest in technology and player engagement.
Lowering the tax rate could help smaller operators expand their presence in the market, but the decision to maintain the 30 per cent levy on virtual sports suggests the regulator remains cautious about the potential risks of fast-paced betting formats.
