The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has launched an ambitious infrastructure project aimed at constructing 1,200 classrooms, 200 eLearning centers, and 100 health facilities across the Philippines. Partnering with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), PAGCOR’s flagship project targets rural and underserved communities, aiming to improve education, healthcare, and disaster readiness.
PAGCOR Launches Project to Build Classrooms & Health Centers in Rural Philippines
As part of its commitment to nation-building, PAGCOR has announced a landmark project to enhance education, health, and emergency resources across the Philippines. Over the next four years, PAGCOR, in collaboration with DepEd and DPWH, will construct 1,200 classrooms and 200 eLearning centers in rural areas, providing critical support for educational growth in underserved communities.
Key Points:
PAGCOR’s project includes 1,200 classrooms and 200 eLearning centers with internet access.
100 health facilities and 50 multi-purpose halls will further support community well-being.
Infrastructure improvements will benefit rural communities, emphasizing education, healthcare, and disaster resilience.
Alejandro Tengco, PAGCOR Chairman and CEO, underscored the initiative’s importance, particularly for remote towns and villages, as part of a broader effort to empower and uplift marginalized communities. “As part of our commitment to nation-building,” Tengco stated, “we aim to prioritize classrooms and facilities in rural areas, extending support where it’s most needed.”
The 200 eLearning centers will be equipped with 48 computers each and stable internet, allowing students to access online resources and computer literacy programs. These facilities bridge the gap for students who may lack access to essential educational technology, furthering DepEd’s efforts to enhance digital literacy across the nation.
Tengco continued, “We want these projects to benefit as many Filipinos as possible because laying the groundwork for a stronger nation is not the sole responsibility of the education sector but should be a collective effort of agencies and organizations.”
The Joint Memorandum Circular signed by PAGCOR, DepEd, and DPWH delineates responsibilities: DPWH will oversee construction, while DepEd will administer schools and eLearning centers, ensuring they are staffed and fully operational. This collaborative approach supports a well-rounded education initiative that focuses on quality and accessibility.
Beyond educational infrastructure, the initiative includes the construction of 100 health and wellness centers. These facilities will offer critical healthcare services, including doctor consultations, dental services, vaccinations, and treatment rooms, ensuring rural communities have access to essential health resources. Such investments are crucial in areas with limited access to medical services, significantly impacting community health.
Moreover, PAGCOR plans to build 50 multi-purpose halls across the Philippines. These centers are versatile facilities designed for community gatherings, training seminars, and disaster relief. In times of natural disasters, these halls can serve as emergency shelters and aid distribution centers, supporting PAGCOR’s commitment to both development and disaster preparedness.
PAGCOR’s comprehensive infrastructure project highlights the agency’s commitment to community development, prioritizing rural education, healthcare, and emergency preparedness. By partnering with DepEd and DPWH, PAGCOR is laying the foundation for a resilient future, fostering growth in communities that need it most. Through these investments, PAGCOR aims to drive long-term national progress, providing critical resources and opportunities for Filipinos across the country.
