It will be the last satellite gaming venue to close in Macau.
Macau.- Casino operator SJM Resorts has announced that Casino Landmark, its satellite venue located at the New Orient Landmark Hotel on the Macau Peninsula, will close on December 30. It will be the last of a series of closures of Macau satellite gaming venues under new gaming concession terms introduced in January 2023, which required the venues to close or pass to direct management by concessionaires by the end of 2025.
In a statement released on Wednesday, SJM said customers with outstanding chips, deposits, or cash rebates after the closure will be able to redeem them at other SJM Resorts casinos from December 31. All gaming equipment at the venue will be redeployed to other properties owned by the operator.
The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau will collaborate with the Labour Affairs Bureau to facilitate the relocation of 1,169 staff from Casino Landmark. Local staff directly employed by SJM will be transferred to roles at other casinos, while contract workers will receive compensation and priority consideration for future openings.
The three casino concessionaires in Macau have been implementing a phased closure of their satellite venues. SJM Resorts has already closed Casino Grandview, Casino Grand Emperor Palace, Casino Legend Palace, Casino Casa Real, Casino Ponte 16, Casino Kam Pek Paradise and Casino Fortuna. Its only satellite venue what will remain is Casino L’Arc after SJM’s parent company decided to buy the L’Arc Hotel, where the casino is located, for HKD1.75bn (US$224.8m).
