South Korea.- Police claim to have dismantled a Vietnam-based illegal online gambling network accused of handling approximately KRW1.3tn (US$930m) in wagers through four unlicensed websites. The Cyber Investigation Unit of the South Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency said that 63 people had been arrested, including 13 members of the alleged core organisation and 50 domestic distributors responsible for promotion and user recruitment in South Korea.
According to investigators, the organisation operated the sites from Vietnam between April 2020 and January 2025. The platforms reportedly offered casino games such as baccarat and blackjack and attracted more than 25,000 registered users.
Police said the group divided operational responsibilities among members, including handling deposits and withdrawals, managing player accounts and promoting the sites through digital channels, such as social media. Authorities tracked the operation by analysing the movement of funds across more than 500 bank accounts. The alleged leader of the network was arrested after entering South Korea from Vietnam last year, which subsequently led to additional arrests.
Police secured a pre-indictment asset preservation order covering approximately KRW75.4bn (US$54m) in suspected criminal proceeds, reportedly the largest amount frozen in a single cyber gambling investigation conducted by South Korean police.
