Vietnam.- Sun Group has broken ground on its US$2bn casino and resort complex in Quang Ninh province. The 244-hectare development is intended to be a modern “resort city” that integrates tourism, accommodation, entertainment, commercial and leisure aimed at both international and domestic visitors.
The first phase will include a Marriott-branded hotel complex with thousands of rooms, beachfront resort villas, commercial shopping zones and service and entertainment amenities. A network of pedestrian boulevards and plazas underlines the project’s “Art in Landscape” design philosophy.
Under government policy, the casino allow accept Vietnamese citizens on a pilot basis. The casino is slated to open in 2028, with full completion of the resort expected by the fourth quarter of 2034.

Nguyen Thai Hoai Anh, deputy general director of Sun Group shared: “Sun Group is honoured to be entrusted by the Government and Quang Ninh Province to implement this strategically significant project. With the orientation toward developing a world-class resort city, together with the pilot policy allowing Vietnamese citizens to participate in gaming entertainment, we expect the project to contribute to the formation of a new, well-regulated, and sustainable service sector.
“More importantly, it will serve as a driving force helping Van Don move closer to its goal of becoming a modern marine economic zone and a regional-scale tourism and entertainment hub, delivering long-term value to the community and the local economy.”
The project is located within the Van Don Economic Zone, primarily on forested land bordering the sea. The casino will feature 214 gaming tables and 2,140 slot machines. The project has a licence term of up to 70 years and is projected to generate over VND228trn (US$9.6bn) in contributions to Quang Ninh’s economy while creating around 6,000 jobs.
