A 24-year-old woman has been arrested.
Thailand.- Police have arrested a 24-year-old woman accused of managing an illegal online casino in Chiang Rai. Officers from the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) and the Royal Thai Police Operations Centre raided a rented room in Pa Sang, Mae Chan district, where they detained the suspect, identified as Ms Kamonphat. Police seized a laptop and a mobile phone allegedly used to operate the gambling platform Boost4fatcash.
Investigators said the site had been active for more than two years, had over 9,000 users and processed a monthly turnover exceeding THB5m (US$140,000). Domestic bank accounts were used to automate deposits.
During questioning, Kamonphat reportedly admitted to having previously worked as an administrator for an online gambling operation in Myanmar before returning to Thailand, where she continued similar work for around a year, earning THB15,000 (US$460) per month.
She faces charges for organising and promoting gambling through electronic media without permission, in violation of Thailand’s Gambling Act B.E. 2478 (1935). Both the suspect and seized items were handed to Mae Chan Police Station for legal proceedings.
The raid forms part of Thailand’s ongoing “Final Bet” initiative, led by the CCIB in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO), and Interpol. The campaign targets illegal online casinos, sports betting sites, and cross-border syndicates linked to money laundering and cyber fraud.
Authorities have already blocked nearly 200 gambling-related domains this year and confiscated assets tied to networks with turnovers exceeding THB10bn (US$308m). However, police note that new sites continue to emerge, often relocating servers to neighbouring countries or adopting cryptocurrency-based systems to evade detection.
