Anutin says that most Thais oppose the legalisation of gambling.
Thailand.- Thai prime minister Anutin Charnvirakul has reiterated his opposition to gambling and said that his government will not consider allowing casino. He made the comments during a bilateral meeting with China’s President Xi Jinping at the APEC Economic Leaders’ gathering in South Korea.
Anutin said most Thais oppose the legalisation of gambling. President Xi commended Thailand’s decision and said China will take more steps to discourage its citizens from traveling abroad for casino tourism.
These statements follow Anutin’s decision to reinstate the ban on poker and all card games associated with gambling. The Pheu Thai Party has warned that the move may cost the country 1.4bn baht a year in lost revenue.
