Thailand.- The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) says it has blocked nearly 14,000 online gambling-related URLs as part of an effort to combat illegal betting during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It says it took action against 13,888 websites, social media pages and other online links between June 1 and June 18 following instructions from the Thai government to strengthen enforcement against online crime and illegal gambling during the tournament.
Deputy Minister Bunthida Somchai said artificial intelligence was playing a key role, helping authorities identify and analyse gambling-related content across digital platforms more quickly and efficiently.
“Over the past 18 days, more than 13,000 items have been blocked by using AI technology to detect and analyse social media websites related to online gambling,” Somchai said.
The ministry has urged the public not to share, promote or distribute gambling-related content online. Authorities said they would continue monitoring online platforms throughout the World Cup in a bid to identify and block illegal gambling content as quickly as possible.
