Hong Kong Sevens, Hong Kong China Rugby, the Hong Kong Jockey Club and Hong Kong Football Club partner to celebrate Hong Kong Sevens 50th anniversary.
Hong Kong.- Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR) and the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens have announced an expanded partnership with The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) and Hong Kong Football Club (HKFC) in a strategic move to elevate Rugby Week in April 2026 and celebrate the Sevens’ 50th anniversary.
The agreement builds on the Jockey Club’s longstanding role as the Official Community Partner of the Hong Kong Sevens, now set to deepen its involvement by also supporting the Tradition HKFC 10s, an international 10s rugby tournament, which will run April 14 -16, 2026, at the Hong Kong Football Club.
A key highlight of the expanded collaboration is the introduction of “Racing with Rugby Week,” a fan experience combining world-class rugby with the city’s horse-racing culture. During Rugby Week, attendees will enjoy coordinated events at both Sha Tin and Happy Valley Racecourses, including a special rugby-themed race meeting at Happy Valley on April 15.
HKCR chairman Chris Brooke underscored the partnership’s community emphasis, noting that the three organisations “share a similar vision for the role that sport can play in our community,” and highlighting the success of outreach initiatives like the Jockey Club Sevens Community Programmes, which brought thousands of underprivileged groups, students, and young players into contact with the sport in 2025.
Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, CEO of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, said: “The Rugby Sevens and horse racing are two of Hong Kong’s most iconic sporting attractions, each drawing thousands of visitors to the city every year. It’s fantastic that we have been able to bring these traditions together through the Racing with Rugby Week. The Jockey Club has long been a committed supporter of the city’s sports development and the Rugby Sevens community outreach programme. This partnership not only strengthens that commitment to community support, but also reinforces Hong Kong’s status as a world-class sports tourism destination, creating a truly unique experience for local fans and visitors alike.”
Fans can also expect free Hong Kong Jockey Club game booths, activities in fan villages at both the Sevens and the HKFC 10s, as well as an official team announcement event at Sha Tin Race Course Parade Ring on April 12 to kick off Rugby Week.
