Two resignations mean The Star Entertainment Group’s board is temporarily reduced to three members.
Australia.- The Star Entertainment Group has appointed Bally’s chairman Soo Kim as chairman, while former chairman Bruce Mathieson Jr has been named as incoming chief executive officer. The changes were confirmed at a board meeting yesterday (December 16), a day after it was announced that chief executive Steve McCann would step down.
Kim joined Star Entertainment’s board in late November after the approval of Bally’s AU$300m (US$193m) investment, which gave it control of the Australian casino operator. Non-executive directors Peter Hodgson and Toni Thornton have resigned, temporarily reducing the board to three members – Kim, Mathieson Jnr and George Papanie – pending regulatory approvals for appointments previously announced.
While Mathieson Jr has stepped down as chairman, he will remain on the board as an executive director. The company said material terms will be released to the ASX once finalised. The changes come as The Star continues to navigate regulatory scrutiny and financial challenges.

Kim said: “We are fortunate to have Bruce lead our company as CEO. George and I understand what an honour and responsibility it is to join and contribute to the Board. We are confident our best days are ahead,” he said.
