The NSW Independent Casino Commission extended the appointment of the casino’s government-appointed manager.
Australia.- The Star Sydney has announced that the suspension of The Star Sydney casino licence will remain in effect. The NSW Independent Casino Commission (NICC) has also extended the appointment of the venue’s special manager Nicholas Weeks until September 30, 2026.
The NICC originally suspended The Star Sydney licence in October 2022 after determining that the operator was no longer suitable to hold its casino licence. It allowed gaming operations to continue under the supervision of an appointed manager while remediation measures were implemented.
According to the company’s ASX announcement, The Star has been informed that this managerial oversight will continue while the operator continues to work towards meeting suitability requirements.
The Star informed the commission in January 2026 that it would not seek a licence determination in March. This position was reaffirmed in a subsequent “pathway to suitability” submission provided on March 12, prompting the NICC to maintain the suspension.
