Suntrust steps back to a minority role as completion is pushed back to 2026.
The Philippines.- Travellers International Hotel Group has taken control of the US$1.2bn Westside City integrated resort in Manila’s Entertainment City. The project, previously led by Suntrust Resort Holdings, has faced repeated delays, with its opening now targeted for the third quarter of 2026.
Under a new strategic agreement, Suntrust will hold a 20 per cent indirect stake in Entertainment City Resorts Corporation (ECRC), the vehicle through which Travellers and its affiliates will oversee construction and operations. ECRC will assume all rights and obligations related to the project.
Travellers is owned by Andrew Tan’s Alliance Global. The Westside Integrated Resort will have a five-star hotel with more than 450 suites, a casino featuring over 280 gaming tables and 1,000 slot machines, a shopping mall, and a 3,000-seat theatre complex. Cultural features will include the Artists Promenade, the Grand Opera House, and the Apollo, Bohemia, and Crown theatres designed to showcase Philippine performing arts.
Located within Manila Bay’s Entertainment City, the project will become the fourth large-scale casino resort in the district, joining Solaire, City of Dreams Manila, and Okada Manila. The area is a strategic hub for the Philippines, competing with Macau and Singapore for regional gaming and tourism traffic.
Travellers already operates Newport World Resorts, formerly Resorts World Manila, next to the capital’s main international airport. The company is banking on the post-pandemic tourism recovery and its expanded footprint in Manila to strengthen its position in the Asian gaming market.
