Authorities froze assets, revoked licences of payment institutions and tightened crypto oversight.
Turkey.- Nearly TRY5bn ($114.38m) in suspected illegal betting and gambling proceeds were blocked by Turkey in 2025. That’s according to the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK), which operates under the Treasury and Finance Ministry.
Officials said transactions linked to organised crime groups were identified, prompting asset freezes and other financial restrictions. Authorities also intercepted attempts to transfer illegal proceeds via foreign currency and crypto assets. Numerous bank accounts associated with suspected illegal betting and laundering operations were shut down.
Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek warned the public against allowing third parties to use their financial accounts, noting that illegal betting organisers are increasingly exploiting bank, payment, electronic money and crypto accounts belonging to others. He cautioned that arrangements such as temporary account use, entrustment or commission-based access could expose individuals to criminal liability, including charges related to illegal betting and money laundering.
The minister also flagged cases in which organisers allegedly established companies in other people’s names to collect illicit proceeds, urging citizens to exercise caution. Authorities said enforcement efforts will continue in coordination with financial regulators and law enforcement bodies, with MASAK expected to maintain asset seizures, licence revocations and operational suspensions to prevent illegal betting funds from entering Turkey’s financial system.
