Authorities have launched a coordinated national effort to combat illegal gambling.

Turkey.- Justice Minister Akın Gürlek has issued directives to chief public prosecutor offices across Turkey, instructing them to step up investigations into illegal gambling, particularly online. Hürriyet Daily News reports that prosecutors have been told to systematically report cases in order to create to a more efficient and integrated sharing of information.

The minister also wants more be regular coordination meetings between judicial authorities, law enforcement and specialised units to improve efficiency and information sharing. The new approach will bring together prosecutors, police, cybercrime units and other stakeholders to tackle illegal gambling as a broader national issue.

The minister said Investigators are dealing with increasingly complex cases involving offshore platforms, cryptocurrencies, and electronic payment systems that make financial flows harder to trace. As such, authorities will prioritise digital evidence collection and closer scrutiny of payment processors and financial intermediaries.

The government is framing its efforts against illegal gambling as a matter of public health. Officials have highlighted the social impact. Turkey has a highly restrictive gambling framework, with most activities tightly controlled by the state and only a limited number of authorised operators. This has contributed to the growth of offshore and illegal platforms. There have also been concerns about sports integrity, following recent investigations linked to Turkish football.
