Macau.- Two Macau satellite casinos will close this week. SJM Resorts has announced that Casino Emperor Palace at Grand Emperor hotel will close at 11.59pm on October 30. Meanwhile, Galaxy Entertainment Group has announced that Waldo Casino, operated by its subsidiary Galaxy Casino Company, will close at 11.59pm on October 31. Tables and slots will be relocated to other venues in both cases.
SJM said customer entitlements, including unredeemed chips, deposits, or rebates, will remain valid at other SJM casinos starting October 31. SJM said staff directly employed by the company will be reassigned to other casinos while local workers not on its payroll will be given priority to apply for vacancies.
GEG said it was working with the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau to ensure an orderly closure and that affected staff would be transferred to other roles or non-gaming departments under existing terms. Customers holding Waldo Casino chips can redeem them from November 1 at designated counters in Galaxy Macau Casino or StarWorld Casino, it added.
In June, the government of Macau confirmed that it had received notifications from SJM Resorts, Melco Resorts and Galaxy Entertainment Group that 11 satellite casinos would close by the end of the year. In July, SJM Resorts announced the end of operations of Casino Grandview, while in September Melco Resorts & Entertainment shut down Grand Dragon Casino and the slot machine parlour Mocha Kuong Fat.
