Authorities say companies need more time to meet requirements.
Uzbekistan.- Nearly a year after legalising the sector, Uzbekistan has yet to receive any formal applications for gambling licences. Speaking at a press conference, Askarjon Zakirov, Head of the Department for Development of Cryptoassets Circulation at the National Agency for Perspective Projects (NAPP), said no applications had been submitted but that companies had approached the department for consultations.
According to Zakirov, the lack of applications is linked to the country’s strict regulatory approach, which aims to protect vulnerable groups from gambling-related risks. Operators are working to align with requirements before applying to enter the market, he said.
A key component of the regulatory framework is the Unified State Register of Bets and Players, a system designed to monitor betting activity. Authorities say the platform is technically ready and in its final implementation phase. The government expects the register to enable close supervision of both operators and players.
Under Uzbekistan’s framework, licences will be issued for up to five years.
