The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) reported 70 suspicious betting alerts in the first quarter of 2026, an increase from 63 alerts in Q1 2025. The cases involved 10 sports, with football, tennis, and eSports leading the list. Asia accounted for 13% of all alerts, with incidents in various countries. CLSA projects 5% growth for Macau GGR

CLSA cautions against relying too heavily on premium players in Macau’s gaming sector in 2026. Despite a strong start to the year, the investment group predicts a modest 5% increase in gross gaming revenue to MOP260bn. Analyst Jeffrey Kiang highlights potential macroeconomic challenges, such as weaker industrial profitability in China and rising oil prices, which could impact consumer spending. The report emphasizes the dominance of premium players over broader participation, leading to lower gaming spend per visitor. Additionally, the focus on volume over price is evident in the slight decrease in five-star room rates despite high occupancy rates. Overall, CLSA advises caution and a diversified approach in navigating the uncertainties facing Macau’s gaming industry.

Australia’s gambling ad reforms to cut spending by just 0.8%, government analysis shows

The impact report on upcoming gambling advertising restrictions in Australia estimates a US$43.5 million annual decline in gambling expenditure. The Office of Impact Analysis (OIA) predicts a 0.8% decrease in gambling activity due to the reforms. Around 2,461 stakeholders, including betting operators and broadcasters, will be affected. The government has chosen partial restrictions over a full ad ban to minimize disruption to media companies and sports organizations. The new regulations will ban gambling ads during live sports broadcasts on TV, limit them during daytime hours, and restrict promotions in stadiums and on players’ uniforms. Online platforms will have a “triple lock” system to block gambling ads by default, requiring users to be over 18, logged in, and able to opt out. These rules will apply to streaming platforms, podcasts, and sports league websites.

CBRE projects 8.3 per cent Macau GGR growth in 2026

The article discusses CBRE Equity Research’s forecast for Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) to increase by 8.3% in 2026, exceeding current consensus estimates. In the first quarter, GGR already saw a 14.3% rise compared to the previous year. The analysts believe that sustained growth is likely, outpacing China’s economic expansion due to targeted policy measures. Despite concerns about rising costs and competition, the sector is stabilizing, with operators adjusting spending for sustainability. While market-wide commission dollars and operating expenditure have increased, it is primarily driven by a few operators seeking market share gains. Overall, CBRE anticipates continued strong performance in Macau’s gaming sector for the rest of 2026.

AGEM Index drops 9.2% in March

The Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers (AGEM) Index saw a significant drop in March, falling by 149.30 points to 1,472.20. This represents a 9.2% decline compared to February and an 8.9% decrease year-on-year. Seven out of nine companies on the index experienced share price declines, with Aristocrat Leisure Limited and Konami being the largest negative contributors. However, Galaxy Gaming Inc. made a positive contribution with a 17.6% increase in share price. Overall, US equity markets also saw negative performance in March, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and NASDAQ all experiencing declines.

The Philippines says no illegal online offshore gaming operations left

The Department of Justice has announced the successful eradication of illegal offshore gambling operations in the Philippines in compliance with the 2025 ban on online gambling operators. Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida confirmed the dismantling of all remaining hubs within a month of the government’s deadline, stating that there are no official or illegal POGOs left. The Anti-POGO Act of 2025, signed into law by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., established measures to crackdown on online gaming operators and prevent their resurgence as scam hubs. Despite the industry’s significant contribution to the economy in 2019, concerns regarding human trafficking, kidnapping, and money laundering prompted the government to take decisive action.
