Stricter rules help shape more responsible e-games sector, PAGCOR CEO says
Alejandro H. Tengco, CEO of PAGCOR, addressed the Association of Independent Licensed Gaming and Amusement Operators in the Philippines, highlighting the industry’s shift towards stricter regulations and transparency. Recent reforms, such as the de-linking of e-wallets from online gaming platforms, aim to protect players and legitimate operators. Tengco praised licensed operators for their resilience in adapting to the new rules, contrasting them with illegal operators who evade taxes and endanger players. He emphasized the importance of integrity for sustainability in the gaming sector. AILGAO honored Tengco with a Gaming Exemplary Leadership Award during the event.
UAE lottery operator launches online gambling despite lack of legislation
Momentum has launched TrueWin and Dream Island online casino and sportsbook platforms in the United Arab Emirates, despite the lack of legislation legalizing online betting. The platforms offer live dealer games, poker, roulette, slots, and sports betting on international events. While Momentum is the only company with a legal gaming license in the UAE through the UAE Lottery, TrueWin and Dream Island operate in a regulatory grey area without displaying licensing information from the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority. TrueWin.ae was registered in March 2023, and Dream Island was registered in 2020, pre-dating the establishment of the GCGRA in September 2023.
MPs push Australian government for gambling ad ban
MPs in Australia are advocating for a ban on gambling advertising, with cross-party support indicating it could pass in a parliamentary vote. Labour MP Mike Freelander, Liberal MP Simon Kennedy, and independent Kate Chaney believe a ban could succeed through a conscience vote. ACT independent senator David Pocock criticized Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for delaying action despite widespread backing. Advocates for reform are presenting research in Canberra for a national gambling regulator, challenging the current licensing model in the Northern Territory. Responsible Wagering Australia opposes new regulations, advocating for improving existing protections against offshore gambling sites. The industry’s resistance to reform is evident amidst growing political will for change.

Citigroup reports that Macau’s premium-mass segment performed well in November, with average wagers per player increasing by 2% compared to the Chinese New Year 2025 holiday period. Total wagers rose by 19% year-on-year, exceeding expectations for the typically slow month. High-roller activity also saw growth, with more whales in November compared to the previous year.
