Tests on 10 unlicensed platforms found that payments could be processed through major providers.
Kazakhstan.- The government of Kazakhstan has ordered telecom operators to block mobile payment methods used to fund unlicensed online gambling. It has instructed companies to introduce technology capable of detecting and blocking gambling-related transfers.
The country’s Financial Monitoring Agency of Kazakhstan said tests on 10 unlicensed platforms found that payments could be processed through major providers, including Tele2, Beeline, Kcell and Activ, allowing users to bypass controls imposed by traditional banks.
Lawmakers are also advancing proposals to criminalise the promotion of unlicensed casinos by influencers and social media personalities. Meanwhile, new restrictions barring local citizens from land-based gambling will take effect on May 17. Only foreign passport holders will be allowed to enter casinos, betting shops and slot machine venues in designated areas.
Authorities say the combined approach aims to reduce domestic participation in gambling and curb the reach of unlicensed operators.
