Police will place illegal gambling alongside online scams as a top enforcement priority.
South Korea.- A bilateral police summit in Seoul between the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) Acting Commissioner Yoo Jae-seong and the Cambodian National Police (CNP) Chief Sar Thet confirmed that the Cambodia-Korea Joint Task Force for Koreans (CKJTFK), created to combat online scams, will now expand its scope to include illegal gambling operations.
Authorities warned that organised networks are continuing to shift their operational hubs across Southeast Asia, requiring closer cross-border coordination and faster intelligence sharing.
Officials described the expansion as a “proactive measure” to enhance real-time cooperation and joint investigations, in line with each nation’s legal framework. The initiative is expected to strengthen the ability of both forces to respond to increasingly complex criminal structures, particularly those exploiting digital platforms.
While the primary emphasis of the expanded mandate is on illegal gambling and online fraud, the task force will also incorporate drug-related offences into its operations.
