Citigroup analysts suggest RFID tables can boost GGR without an increase in foot traffic or reduction in operating expenses.
Macau.- Analysts continue to tout the benefits of Macau casino operators’ introduction of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology tables. Citigroup’s George Choi and Ryan Cheung say smart tables, constituting 10 per cent of all tables, will drive organic GGR growth by expediting gameplay and capturing data on ‘ betting patterns for more accurate valuation and cost-effective player-comping strategies.
The tables also address security concerns by preventing counterfeit chip usage and identifying high-value yet unrated players. They can also facilitate the introduction of new betting options and enhance anti-money laundering (AML) measures.
The report highlights that all Mass baccarat tables at two MGM China casinos are now equipped with the technology. It notes 140 such tables at the Londoner and 24 in the Grind Mass area at Wynn Macau.
A previous report revealed Melco Resorts & Entertainment plans to install RFID tables in its premium mass gaming area by the end of this month. Galaxy Entertainment Group will install tables in the second quarter and SJM, at Grand Lisboa, in the fourth quarter. In March, secretary for economy and finance Lei Wai Nong said electronic gaming tables and chips could help track foreign players’ bets more accurately.
