The Philippines.- The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), the Philippine Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), and the Philippine National Police (PNP) have led a joint operation against alleged illegal online gambling in Quezon City. They arrested seven suspects and confiscated mobile devices and other equipment
According to the The Philippine News Agency, PCSO shield chair Orlando Malaca told a press conference at Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 14 that the operation started when an authorised PCSO agent was caught continuing gambling operations despite the end of its contract in July.
Malaca said illegal activities not only undermine government revenues intended for health and charity programs but also expose Filipinos to fraud and financial risks. The suspects face charges under the Cybercrime Prevention Act (RA 10175), Presidential Decree No. 1602 (Prescribing Stiffer Penalties on Illegal Gambling), and related statutes.
Renato “Aboy” Paraiso, CICC acting executive director, said: “These illegal operators may seem small at first glance, but over time, their impact is significant. That is why we are relentless in pursuing them,” Paraiso concluded.
