India.- The Gujarat Police Department has arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly engaging in illegal online betting during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Narenda Modi Stadium. The incident took place on Monday, April 20, during a match between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians.
Officers said personnel deployed for security and crowd management received a tip-off about suspicious betting activity being carried out by a spectator in the stands. Acting on the information, they identified the suspect in an upper-tier seating section and escorted him to a nearby area to be questioned.
Police say the suspect was logged into a betting platform and had been placing wagers on the match as it progressed. A mobile phone and the match ticket were confiscated, and police have filed charges under the Gujarat Prevention of Gambling Act. Further investigations are underway to determine whether the suspect is connected to a wider betting network.
