The initiative was launched at Sha Tin Racecourse ahead of the Hong Kong Sevens.
Hong Kong.- The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has launched its “Racing with Rugby” initiative at Sha Tin Racecourse. The programme was developed with Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR) and the Hong Kong Football Club (HKFC).
The launch ceremony took place in the Sha Tin parade ring with senior representatives from the HKJC, HKCR and HKFC in attendance. HKJC chief executive officer Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges highlighted the synergy between racing and rugby, noting that both sports attract global attention and contribute to tourism in Hong Kong. He described Sha Tin Racecourse as an ideal venue for the initiative.
HKCR chairman Chris Brooke and HKFC president Nicholas Hunsworth presented an autographed team jersey to the HKJC, while Engelbrecht-Bresges, joined by jockey Zac Purton and apprentice jockey Britney Wong, handed over racing silks in the club’s signature colours.

Fans took part in meet-and-greet sessions with rugby players.
The HKJC continues its involvement as the Official Community Partner of the Hong Kong Sevens for the fifth consecutive year and, for the first time, of the HKFC 10s. Through fan village booths, outreach programmes and youth competitions, as well as ticket distribution to students, seniors and underprivileged groups, the initiative is expected to enable more than 12,000 people to experience sports activities this year.
