Authorities plan a hotline and public awareness campaigns in an effort to minimise illegal betting.
Indonesia.- Speaking during a press conference in Jakarta, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, head of the Public Information Bureau of the National Police Public Relations Division, has said that Indonesian police are preparing preventive measures to address possible spikes in gambling and fraud linked to the 2026 World cup.
He urged citizens to report suspected gambling and scams through the national 110 complaint hotline. Authorities are also working with public broadcaster TVRI, the official Indonesian broadcaster for the 2026 World Cup, to establish a dedicated reporting channel as police say illegal betting operators frequently use pirated livestreams to attract users and promote gambling services.
“We must anticipate the rise of football gambling. We cannot allow this momentum to be exploited for unlawful activities that could result in public loss,” Trunoyudo said.
