Macau gaming suspicious transaction reports rise 8.7% in H1 2026

The gaming sector remained the largest source of reports.

Macau.- The gaming sector in Macau generated 2,018 suspicious transaction reports (STRs) during the first half of 2026. That’s 8.7 per cent increase from 1,856 reports in the same period last year, according to figures released by the Unitary Police Service’s Financial Intelligence Office (GIF).

The gaming sector remained the largest source of suspicious transaction reports, accounting for 73.3 per cent of the total 2,753 STRs received between January and June and driving an overall rise of 9.5 per cent in the number of reports filed.

Financial institutions and insurance companies filed 526 reports during the six-month period, up from 500 reports a year earlier and representing 19.1 per cent of the total. Other institutions submitted 209 reports, up from 159, to account for the remaining 7.6 per cent. The GIF said it referred 54 suspicious transaction reports to the Public Prosecutions Office for further action.
