Macau.– Macau’s tourism sector has started 2026 on a high note with 11.21 million visitors in the first quarter, according to the latest data from the Statistics and Census Service. The figure represents a 13.7 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. March saw 3.39 million arrivals, a 10.6 per cent year-on-year rise.
Visitors from mainland China remain the primary driver, accounting for 8.39 million arrivals (74.8 per cent of the total) in the first quarter, a 16.4 per cent increase from last year. Independent travel via the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) rose by 18.4 per cent to 4.75 million entries.
Other regional markets also showed positive movement. Taiwanese visits rose by 29.1 per cent to over 285,000, while arrivals from Hong Kong saw a modest increase of 1.8 per cent, reaching 1.78 million.
International visits totalled 755,756, up 10.7 per cent. Visits from Thailand rose 70.5 per cent, and those from India by 41.3 per cent. Conversely, arrivals from Indonesia saw a decline of nearly 14 per cent. Same-day arrivals grew by 20.3 per cent to 7 million, while overnight stays grew by 4.1 per cent to 4.21 million.
