New Zealand.- The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) Zealand has said that spending on online gambling in New Zealand has reached NZ$1.36bn (US$758m) per year. The data comes as the country prepares to launch a regulated sector under the Online Casino Gambling Act 2026, which came into effect earlier this month.

Spending at dedicated online casino operators increased 38 per cent year-on-year, while hybrid operators offering multiple gaming verticals also saw gains. Revenue was highly concentrated, with the top 15 operators accounting for more than 82 per cent of online gambling spend.
In contrast, the sports betting segment declined significantly, with spending falling 37 per cent year-on-year alongside decreases in transactions and active users.
“The market is expanding both in breadth and depth,” said Trina Lowry, programme director for Online Gambling Implementation at the DIA.
