The government says it has adopted a zero-tolerance approach.
Bangladesh.- Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has confirmed that online gambling will be a central focus of a multi-agency crackdown on illicit activity. Speaking to Parliament, he said: “The government had adopted a zero-tolerance policy on narcotics and cyber-based gambling platforms”.
The minister said illegal online platforms have “rapidly expanded in recent years,” increasingly reaching younger demographics. “A coordinated nationwide drive involving all relevant agencies will begin after April 30. There is no alternative to it,” Salahuddin Ahmed told lawmakers.
Authorities indicated that intelligence monitoring and inter-agency coordination will play a role in the campaign. The aim is not only to disrupt existing operations but also to prevent them from reappearing under new identities.
“Our objective is to protect the youth from all forms of addiction, whether physical or digital,” the minister stated.
