Macau.- According to estimates from the Macau Economic Association, gross domestic product (GDP) grew by around 10 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter to approximately MOP108bn (US$13.3bn). That’s about 93 per cent of pre-pandemic 2019 levels.
Gaming remained the main growth engine. Gross Gaming Revenue totalled MOP65.87bn (US$8.1bn) , up 14.3 per cent compared to the same period last year. More than 10 million visitors arrived in Macau during the period. Authorities noted a continued “spillover effect” from gaming into broader services and employment.
Broad money supply increased by 7.9 per cent year-on-year to a record level. However, underlying domestic demand remains subdued. Consumer sentiment, property prices and investment indicators continue to show limited recovery.
Forecasts for 2026 remain mixed. The International Monetary Fund projects GDP growth of 3 per cent, while other estimates range between 4 per cent and 6 per cent. The Macau Economic Association has suggested a range of 2 per cent to 5 per cent.
