Goa court extends stay on new floating casino
The Bombay High Court in Goa has maintained its interim order barring the MV Deltin Royale from entering the Mandovi River.
India.- The Bombay High Court in Goa has extended the interim stay preventing the new MV Deltin Royale casino vessel from entering Panaji Port on the Mandovi River. The matter has been adjourned until August 18, while the civic petitioner group, Enough is Enough, has been granted two weeks to file a response to an affidavit from the casino operator.
The 112-metre, seven-deck MV Deltin Royale was designed to carry up to 2,000 passengers. It’s intended to replace the much smaller MV Royale Flotel, which is currently licensed to operate on the river, but the petitioner challenging the project argues that it raises environmental and capacity concerns due to its size.
In May, the court ruled that the vessel could not enter the port without obtaining all mandatory certifications, including proof of seaworthiness, and that prior judicial approval would still be required if the necessary documents were secured. The operator may place on record all permits and certificates under applicable maritime legislation before the next hearing.
