The Hong Kong Jockey Club highlighted the historic performance and betting milestones during FWD Champions Day.
Hong Kong.- The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) is celebrating a landmark moment at its flagship FWD Champions Day. Star sprinter Ka Ying Rising extended his unbeaten streak to 20 consecutive victories while again breaking the Sha Tin track record in the Group 1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize.
The race carried a purse of HK$24m (US$3m). HKJC reported that World Pool Win turnover for the race reached HK$97.1m (US$12.4m). That’s a new record for a single race and a 30 per cent increase over the previous record of HK$63.8m ($8.14m), which was also set by Ka Ying Rising during the G2 Sprint Cup.
Of the total handle, HK$94.4m (US$12m) was wagered on Ka Ying Rising. Odds were 1.05, the minimum possible return within the World Pool framework. Only HK$2.7m ($344,387) was wagered on the other seven runners. Total betting turnover for the 11-race card rose 18 per cent year-on-year to HK$1.798bn (US$229.3m).
Hong Kong Jockey Club chief executive officer Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges described it as “one of the best – if not the best – race meetings ever in Hong Kong”
“I’ve never seen a tote figure like this, with almost HK$100m in the Win pool,” he added.
