The regulator expects strict compliance with liquor and gaming rules.
Australia.- Liquor & Gaming NSW (L&GNSW) has called on pubs and clubs across New South Wales to prioritise compliance and responsible service during the Anzac Day long weekend. L&GNSW encouraged venue operators to familiarise themselves with the rules governing two-up and Anzac Day trading, and to ensure staff are properly briefed.
As part of the day’s traditions, the game of two-up is permitted to be played without a licence, provided it is conducted in its traditional format. However, L&GNSW stressed that venues must implement appropriate measures to manage increased crowd numbers and mitigate risks associated with alcohol consumption and gambling. The regulator also reminded operators that all advertising and promotional activities linked to Anzac Day must comply with guidelines.
Dimitri Argeres, L&GNSW executive director of regulatory operations, said inspectors would be active across metropolitan and regional. “Anzac Day is a deeply significant occasion when Australians come together to remember and reflect,” Argeres said. “With the commemorations marking the beginning of a long weekend this year, many pubs and clubs will experience higher patronage throughout the day.”
Anzac Day, observed on April 25, commemorates the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.
