Macau VIP baccarat revenue rises 35.4% in Q1

Despite the rebound in VIP play, the sector remains far below the heights seen during its peak years.

Macau.- The Macau gaming sector generated MOP19.56bn (US$2.43bn) in VIP baccarat gross gaming revenue in the first quarter of 2026, according to the latest data released by the city’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ). The figure represents a 35.4 per cent increase year-on-year but a 3.6 per cent decline compared with the previous quarter.

The high-roller segment accounted for 29.7 per cent of total GGR, up from 25.1 per cent in the same period last year but lower than the 30.7 per cent share recorded in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Mass-market baccarat continues to be the dominant force, with revenue of MOP36.56bn (US$4.54bn) in Q1 2026. Its share was up by 6.5 per cent year-on-year and up 0.9 per cent sequentially, accounting for 55.5 per cent of total GGR.

Other segments saw mixed but generally positive results. Slot machine revenue rose 21.6 per cent year-on-year and 9.6 per cent from the previous quarter to MOP3.98bn (US$494m). Live multi-game electronic tables generated MOP1.26bn (US$157m), up 3.5 per cent annually and stable on a quarterly basis.

Total gaming revenue was MOP66bn (US$8.20bn), representing double-digit growth from a year earlier. Football wagering generated MOP90m (US$11.18m), a 10 per cent decline year-on-year, while basketball betting grew 23.7 per cent to MOP73m (US$9.07m).
